hi everyone,
i'm pretty new to these forums but have been reading a lot of stuff about computer speakers, headphone jacks, amplification (or lack thereof), etc. i feel like i've gotten an information overload, so i just want to confirm some of what i've learned/ask for some advice.
i have a pair of yamaha yst-m101's. they are pretty dinky, but have been fine with me so far (i'm no audiophile). most importantly, they have a headphone jack b/c i use headphones ~75% of the time on the computer. i've been using some similarly dinky sony earbuds to listen to music.
however, i am getting px200's VERY soon, and possibly portapro's (i would use one set for my computer, one set for my mp3 player).
now, i intend on connecting my headphones to my computer through the speakers' headphone jack. am i correct in thinking... 1) "the two headphones i mentioned can be driven fine from my speakers", and 2) "most/all sets of computer speakers under ~$50 USD have similarly crappy headphone jacks, so upgrading my speakers wouldn't help the headphone sound quality very much, if at all"?
i ask #2 because i may be getting new speakers (my current ones are actin ga bit odd, and they're a few years old), but as i said i don't use my speakers very much, so i was planning on getting some cheaper speakers (like altec lansing 220's) that have a headphone jack. but would getting say inspire t2900's or monsoon planarmedia 14's give me noticeably better headphone quality?
edit: i should add that i'm a student and therefore do not intend on spending copious sums of money
thanks!
ps- is this in the appropriate forum?
