Not long ago I finally reconstructed my main system and now am in need of a headphone amp, neither my pre or amp have phone outputs. Occassionally I like to listen when my family is either asleep or for other reasons they would not appreciate my music. So my primary listening is through speakers, there are times when headphones are a must.
My primary headphones are Sony MDR7509s which I love the sound and comfort of. To give you an idea, I will mention some key components of my stereo: Counterpoint SA12 amp, Dolan PM1 preamp, Soundsmith Monarch speakers, 2 turntables, tuner, cd, and mp3 sources.
Much of my music is rock(all flavors), blues, fusion, jazz, bluegrass, new age, country, rap, etc. So pretty much about anything is fair game.
So I am in need of a headphone amp that I can tie into from tape-out on my preamp.
Sound quality is my primary concern along with compatibility with headphones. I can't afford hundreds of $ either. Hopefully something in the less than $200 range.
Any thoughts or recommendations are more than welcome!
Thank you.
(PS. I signed onto head-fi some time back when I was looking for a durable set of cans for commuting with. Thanks for the info back then.)
