Laptop (Dell @ work, Mac @ home) --> ______ --> Shanling PH100 --> AKG K701

 

As I'm sure you can guess, I'm looking for a low-budget blank-filler.  I am considering the:

-NuForce uDAC-2

-Maverick D1 (used only)

-AUNE or similar 

-echo indigo DJ

-(used) headamp PICO

 

I have a Macbook Pro at home, so OS X compatibility is necessary.  I don't have any high sample-rate rips, SACD, or DVD-A content, so high sample rates are not required.  My other headphones are some Ultrasone PROline 650s, which I've used unamped.

 

Anyone with K701 experience feel particularly attracted (or repulsed) by any of these units?  Should I consider anything I didn't mention?  I will most likely be looking for deals in the classifieds so if you're selling something similar feel free to post up/PM.

 

By the way, I chose this section over Computer Audio because there seems to be equal discussion of USB DACs here versus there and there are a couple similar (but sadly not including my needy-K701 twist) threads languishing in the computer section right now so I thought I'd give it a rest.  If anyone has a problem with that, my apologies, let me know what I can do to remedy the situation.

I might get blasted for this but, honestly, I think my TC-7510 ($110) sounded pretty good with my 701s.

I just picked up a devilsound DAC. Simple, no non-sense, and very portable to and from work. Though, it might be a little more than you want to spend even when used.
