Hey Head-Fi, I've been a frequent lurker on your forums for a while now and have gained some great knowledge from you guys out there, one thing that I have been struggling to see is a thread or info regarding a set-up which enables recording.

I have 4 main components already:

Macbook Pro - Source

FireStudio Mobile - Interface for recording

RP8 Monitors - Output

Sennheiser HD 650 - Output

I realise my main problem is no dedicated DAC or headphone amp and only really have 400 pounds left to spend.

I'm literally hovering over the buy it now button for the Fubar IV Plus USB DAC/Headphone amp as it seems like it's a brilliant joined system (small too, I'm pretty mobile, live shows).

Reason why I haven't bought it yet is that I can't seem to make sense of how it'd all fit in...

Source >(Fireport400)> Firewire Interface >(TRS)> Outputs

            ^

         DAC/HA?

You'd want the DAC to be at the end of the chain but how do I bypass my firewire interface's DAC chip without bypassing the whole recording aspect of it?  And I can't have it at the beggining because everything would end up being analog... My brain has been stumped on this issue for a while and I don't think it's possible really...  Or am I just thinking wrong?  Do I have to ditch the interface to be able to listen to my headphone amp/dac?

Do I need to get separate Dac / Headphone amp for this idea to work?

I hope I've explained my problem clearly, I'd appreciate any advice, thanks guys.

Adam.
