Bombproof male/female jack arrangements ?

My 5m extension cable that I use with my Beyer DT531 cans is playing up. The female mini jack has obviously been twisted once too often and is damaged  where it enters the rubber protection sleeve thingy. I´ll probably just solder another jack on but was wondering if there is a better male-female solution -  in pro-audio perhaps ?. I have also thought of just chopping the 2m cable shortly after it exits the cans and using a 7m cable straight from there to my Creek OBH-21SE amp ´cos I never use them with just the 2m cable,
Any suggestions for a suitable cable assuming I could knock it up myself ?

If you want strength/durability then XLR is the only way to go.

Check out the various jacks from Neutrik. A friend of mine is in a band that hauls gear to shows all over town. Knocked around in the back of trucks, spilled beer, everything. He swears by Neutrik because they hold up.
