DAC to pair with ATH-AD900s.

Hey everyone. I'm currently looking for a great sounding DAC or DAC/Amp combo to go with my recently purchased ATH-AD900s. Seen as though I live in Australia, I don't really have the option of free trials, so I really need to make sure I get my choice right, so I am conducting a lot of research at multiple sources. My price range is around $500 U.S. Popular choices here on Head-Fi at this price range seem to be the Audio-GD FUN (with Earth upgrade) and the NuForce Icon HDP. Both these seem to be getting great reviews, but I have yet to hear of any reports of these with the AD900s. Really want to get a nice synergy combo happening. Which of these two (or any others that you may feel suites my needs) do you think would go best with the AD900s? I listen to mostly indie/rock/ambient/post-rock/metal/folk.

Any feedback/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

Are you using a computer as your source or are you using a CD player?

Have you looked into a quality sound card like an ASUS Xonar STX?

Currently listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan via the computer rig:

Upgraded modular power supply unit > ripped WAV files > Xonar STX sound card > Custom Double Helix Cables > Sennheiser HD650's.

You get excellent sound with the above rig.

I am running currently with the Auzentech Forte soundcard, sounds good but wanting to take it to the next level :)

....but wanting to take it to the next level :)

You'll get that with your Audio-gd "Fun" suggestion.

My efforts to take it to the next level was to pick up a used Burson HA-160 on the Buy/Sell forum.  It will be here the end of this week.

It's suppose to arrive Thursday.  It's been a world traveler as Burson is an Australian company and I'm buying it from a guy on the East Coast of the US as it's now on it's way to the West Coast.

To me, the amount of physical miles this headphone amp has on it is nothing short of amazing.  Time used?  Only fifty hours so it's not even fully broken in yet.

Very nice, I've read some great reviews on them, and from my home country! Maybe something I should look into in the future at some stage Let me know how it goes!

Anyone else able to chuck some suggestions/comments my?

FWIW, I've started a thread regarding DAC's and whether or not they're worth it.
