Will this run the akg k601?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting some k601s for home use, and I've heard they're pretty dead without a good amp. Will a Denon AVR 2805 surround sound reciever hooked up to my laptop via optical cable be capable of running the cans? Here's the specs http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers/denon-avr-2805-black/4507-6466_7-30910987.html?tag=rnav.

The reciever is a hand me down, I didn't buy it for the purpose of amping headphones lol. Also, would I be getting my money's worth in sound quality? When I put in my M50s and turned the volume up, I noticed an increase in SQ. Violins in particular seemed like they were extending more, and the sound overall seemed a bit "cavernous" at times.

bump

You should probably wait more than an hour and a half to bump a request like this..

Unfortunately, unless you can acquire the schematics for the receiver to see what the circuitry is actually like for the headphone amp, it's going to be very difficult to answer your question.  Since headphone jacks are often included just for "completeness" in new receivers, particularly when they don't even give any specifications for the headphone output, the answer is probably going to be "who knows...".  Vendors who do put some effort into designing a good headphone output generally also give ratings for said output.

Since the K601s are known to need a pretty decent amp, I'd say you're probably not going to get the best sound out of them with this receiver..

I wouldn't hold my breath expecting miracles from your receiver with a k601.
