Uninstalling sound drivers

I'm a newbie, and I can't figure out the right way to google search this question so I'm just asking.  

 

I just got a new sound card (I had onboard sound before), and it was recommended that I uninstall my old drivers.

Does this mean I should uninstall my windows sound drivers?  When this happend and I reboot my computer, wont it automatically reinstall the basic sound drivers for windows?

It's usually useless to uninstall old drivers, the point is to have a cleaner new install, but the old drivers won't be a problem 99% of the time.

 

If the old drivers are for the onboard sound chipset (ie. the one on the motherboard) don't uninstall anything, you'll have a computer with 2 soundcards, which could be useful, in case you need one soundcard for Windows programs and the other for music.

 

If the old drivers are for an old sound card you are replacing, you can eitheir check if there is an uninstall program or go to control Panel > Device manager > Sound, video or Game controllers > right click on the name of the old soundcard > uninstall.

For me I didn't have to uninstall old sound drivers. Worked well and have two sound cards configured.

You could go to your BIOS (if you are confident enough to do that) and disable the onboard sound. This should take all the old drivers out of the equation.

That's indeed the best thing to do, but it won't uninstall any drivers as they will remain on the system.

 

Still, just uninstall the drivers and disable the onboard audio chip at least through the device manager.
