I went ahead and got the AV40s, but I seem to be having some problems with the included cables (big surprise there).  The problem is that if I don't plug them in just right (rotated correctly on the source end) an entire channel doesn't work.  I'm not 100% sure that it's the cable's fault, but the fact that my HPs work fine suggests that the cable is the problem.  What's a good, reasonably priced cable (probably 6 feet just be safe).  I'd be fine with 1/8" to either 1/8" or RCA.

I'd think that in your case pretty much any normal cable should do fine. You can probably find one for like four, five dollars online. I'm a tad late but I would have suggested Swan M10s. Very nice pair of small speakers for a little over 100 dollars.

I think I found the problem.  There seems to be some gunk on the connectors.  Even though I could just clean them off, the cables are too short for the way I want to run them (they'll reach but not in the path that I want).
