Hi!

 

I use an iPod because it is good for audiobooks. I hate Apple for its protectionism and the fact that iTunes f!!!s up my PC on start-up, and that my iPod occasionally hangs it self when connected to the PC and have to run out of battery (takes 24 hours) to reboot. 

 

My wish list:

 

1) Effective resume/bookmark function (the player automatically remembers where I was in an audiobook, even if I play other files in between) 

 

2) Fast search function. Sometimes I fall asleep, and have to search many hours back or forth in the audiobook file. The iPod wheel is very good at this.

 

3) Good disc space (60 GB+)

 

4) Digital out - toslink or spdif

 

 

Any replies will be appreciated!

Tried rockbox on your ipod assuming it's a compatible model?

Never heard of it. Took a quick look at their site, however. But it doesn't give me digital out - I presume..

Here is a portable player with digital / optical out. Don't know about the UI. Only SD storage. But still- This is the only portable with digital out I could find.
