Newbie needs help on IC's under 70$/€

hi

I just bought an MG Head OTL MkI to replace my CDP's integrated amp and when I reached for the the cables that came with my SONY XB930 CD player (~400$/€) it became evident that my new MG deserved something more.

my 2 questions:
- for a CDP around 400$/€, and MG Head and HD-600, how much should I spend on interconnects??

- my answer to that question is ~70$/€ (but I'm a newbie on cables, so that's why I still asked). So WHICH interconnects under 70$/€ should I get???

I know I should also get a new cable for the Senn's and also new tubes for the MG but I believe the weakest link in my rig right now are the interconnects. don't you?

thank you for your feedback

cheers

I bought the Kimber Kable PBJ for around $40 used on Audiogon. Been very satisfied with it. They go new for around $70 - 80. But when it comes to interconnects, i think its pretty safe to buy used ones (no moving parts & long lifespan).

Here's another thread on IC posted a couple of days ago. It has a few more suggestions.

Good luck!

If I had $70 for cables, I'd get used ones that listed for $150. Or last year's model that listed for $250. Ebay and Audiogon are good; there is also at least one big site devoted to used cables.

If you really want new, then the Outlaws are an excellent choice. There is also currently a sale on the MIT T-series at Audioadvisor.com

no. you can do better then monsters for the money.

hit audiogon and see what sales are up and about.

I saw some Acoustic Zen Wow's going for ~$100 obo might be worth a shot. Never heard the Wows, but I've got all AZ cabling in my 2 channel rig and love it.

Also check out some of the DIY offerings.

I tried the lower models of Jim Hess on Audiogon's "Magwires." They're pretty descent copper cables that don't have any immediate flaws.

Steve Hoffman's "Grover ICs" are very nice silver ICs sold for around your price range. I use a 2m pair for my RKV and love them.

Theres always some DH-Labs BL-1 up on auction... definetly on the brighter side of neutral, but overall a nice, clean sounding cable. (Eric wrote a comparative review against the much more expensive Virtual Dynamic Nites lately).

The outlaws recommended to you are OK. They aren't a bad choice, but I think there are better options, particularly in your price range...
