If you had a $10,000 dollar budget.

Just for fun. I'm at work today and I am bored.

I was wondering what could be a new dream system.

I want to compare it to what I already have and maybe consider doing some upgrades.

Source can be computer or CD player.

Any DAC.

Preferably a tubed amplifier.

Any headphone. Electrostatic or Dynamic.

The $10,000 budget excludes the cost of a rack, interconnects, power cable, and a power conditioner.

Because it is a dream system, it is not a requirement to have heard the gear.

Please include gear that you heard OR never heard before

I would go for my current rig. Simple as that!

RWA Isabellina - RWA Signature 30.2 - AKG K1000

I think i would put them in a bank, and then started to search for a used set of Sennheiser Orpheus.

I'd spend quite a bit of that on a turntable and speakers.

Laptop - $800

Ayre QB-9 - $2,500

Stax SRM 007tII -  $2,100

Stax 507 - $1,000

Total cost $6,400.  I can't even dream big if that's all it comes to.

i'd buy a spare porta pro, and give the rest to a worthy charity...scary to think that 10k could save a few lives, just a thought.

There is a time and place to give to charity. Of course there is always someone that will need help.

But after you have given to a worthy charity and you have $10,000 left over to spend on headphone gear.

You should considering buying ...

I would put it down on a Meridian 808.3 that way I would only have to come up with 10,000 more....NOT

I would get:

-Audio GD Ref-7 or NFB-7 (planning to get this anyways) (1350-1700)

-B22 5CH (with the best (within reason) parts possible, especially the transformers) With some very nice casework. 2.5-3.5k

The balanced LCD-2 cable from Audeze (90$)

~5000

-lots of CDs ~1500

-varied "music enhancers" that are significantly cheaper when bought in bulk. ~1500

-And about  3000$ to build my own speakers with top notch drivers and a beefy amp to drive them!

Wow, sokolov--You got the LCD-2! I remember way back when you made your thread about bettering the SA5k.

SO jealous of you.

Hey man!

Yup!

Went something like (in order of acquisition) Pro 750 > W1000X > DX 700> D7000> and now my LCD-2. All but the D7000 and SA5K have since been sold. It was a pretty big headphone binge but I understand a lot, have had great experiences with great headphones and well... am currently on a level I didn't think was possible.

I am extremely please with them to say the least... Are you on the waiting list?

Hell no... Not yet at least. I don't have a job at the moment, so money is an immovable object. I went to a meet last month and I was completely blown away by what I heard. Like you said, it was just on a level I didn't think was possible--Hopefully I'll be getting some kind of a minimum-wage job soon though, since I'm 16 on Monday. I just bought a DV 336se today in early preparation and I'm hoping they're synergetic. Even so, I tested them on my old LD 1+/Aune combo and they sounded ridiculously good, so I doubt they'll sound BAD... Almost got the M-Stage though, since I thought something transparent would do them some good. We'll find out soon.

If I added myself to the list now, and for some awful reason I didn't have the money in time, do you think they would just give them to the next guy in line? I'm sure it's a pretty long list.... How long did you wait for yours?
