Looking for upgrade to better sound ...

Hi guys

I'm thinking of upgrading my gear to get a better sound and need your expert advise on it.

ATM I am running MacbookPro --> Maverick TuneMagic DAC--> Alesis M1 Active MKII speakers
(

http://www.alesis.com/m1activemkii )

I am quite happy with the sound the above setup produce but still want better sound
For the time being I can only spare $1000 to $1500 for the upgrade ...

Which gear should I upgrade? the DAC? Speaker? or both? and to which?
Or additional gear to the above setup?
(The DAC/AMP need to be able to drive HD650)

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Cheers

My latest upgrade, which is in the mail is a Burson HA-160.  It will be fed by an ASUS Xonar STX.  The above combination is meant to drive an HD650.  I'm looking at getting an NuForce OPPO BDP-SE to act as a DAC.  Combined price is $2k.  You can spend less and get a Marantz SA8004.  Drops your costs down to some $1,700.00.  If you go used, you can save a couple more hundred dollars.

Working with your budget, check out the Audio-gd "Fun."  There's a boatload of choices and an even bigger boatload of suggestions waiting for you to wade through.

As always, the more you can stretch your budget, the better the solution.
