Alright so I own a onkyo r667 receiver that came in my lower end HTIB Onkyo 6100 (700$ all together, so not that great). Now if I'm buying the ad700's for gaming on my pc/ps3 that both go through my receiver would my receiver be able to push the phones well enough since they are lower quality anyway. Or should I fork out the 130$ for a mixamp that fits my needs very well? I would love to have the mixamp but am I just paying for the virtual surround and the mic volume adjuster and no quality boost over my receiver? Would either the astro mixamp or onkyo receiver bump up the bass in the lacking ad700's? Basically, is the reason nobody mentions receivers as headphone amps because either 1) they already own it and use it, or 2) it's really THAT bad of quality and not a viable option for that price range? Any help will be greatly appreciated, by the way I plan on modding a mic on the ad700's.
Odd Situation...
