A great option for the K1000 would be a vintage Marantz 22XX stereo receiver from the 1970's. I currently own a 2238B which has to defeatable speaker outs (A and B) and I use one with an AKG pigtail for the K1000 plus the second is attached to an spritzer modded Stax energizer box (SRD7) to power both separately or concurrently. I look forward to using the AKG pigtail to test the balanced HE-6 when I get my turn in Fang's loan program. The 1/4" stereo headphone out is very nice indeed although not as good as a high quality dedicated headphone out.
