iPods no longer have education (student) discount?

I checked Apple's online Education Store and noticed that none of the new iPods have a student discount. Anyone know why that is? I remember iPods used to have a student discount.

They haven't had student discount for a few years now IIRC. At least they had no discount when the nanos came out last time, that's why I bought it in another store.

Oh... I did not know that.  My last iPod purchase was two years ago, when the 2nd generation Touch came out.

The reason for this is that Apple's student discounts are subsidized by the government and the gov. doesn't think iPods are necessary.
