Vintage turntable nightmare!

I'm in the process of replacing my broken turntable with a new one and I've come upon a few options on eBay, but I don't know enough about vintage turntables so I thought you kind folks could help me out.  Here are the ones I've found:

Dual 601

Thorens TD280

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230523211955&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Technics SL3200

Technics SLD2

They're all in differing condition with different cartridges and I'm not sure what the best deal would be.  If anyone knows anything about these tables and could guide me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

TL;DR: Which, if any, of these is worth adding to my system?

I'm not familiar with any of those, but you might want to nose around Vinyl Engine. They have discussions of most decks and you'll likely run into some experts. You might find information at Audiokarma, too.

ill take a shot here as i know far too well what u r going through

first  what kind do u want dd or belt drive?

2  whats your top price range?

3  willing to upgrade further? and how much 2 upgrade?

4 want a psu?

5size?

ok

so if u want a smallish vintage table that is excellent get a thorens td150 or the much more expensive linn lp12(i want this one) (it is also based on td150 to a degree, but different)

if you want an auto stop i can safely recommend a thorens td147 which is better than a td145 but the 45 r good too.

if you dont need the auto stop the td 160 super is the exact plinth as td 147 and is an excellent table.  the td 160 is also good but the super has a better plinth. i would classify those as medium sized. the jewbilee also uses same plinth as super and 47 and is gold and anniversary edition or something. good table that.

for a vintage dd tt i will recommend the denon tables  dp 52,59,60 and 62 L.

some also  pay large amounts for the old technics too.

another table that has pitch control that isnt dd is the thorens 125 , next on my list to complete my collection. hands off

but on the downside this table looks rather huge, but it does have pitch control, huge huge plus in my book.  it is also a completely different design than the other thoren models.   its suspended platter is completely different than the others, having the springs mounted underneath  more.  it is a better design but it is also a lot bigger plinth and much heavier.

imo the thorens tables have a very heavy platter that give you an ultra  black background and large stage that will seriously excite

Warning if you have wood hollow floors you may hate these tables as your needle will jump, but there are always wall shelves.  this is due to the suspended platter.

i like duals too,  i were to try an ar it would surely be the original arxa, emt and garrard are also quite bOss

but for now im liking the linn lp12 plus a heed orbit psu or a125 but too big probably  i also love the 150 for its  compact size.

i use a technic 1200 and dl103 at the main rig and i fall asleep every night listening to my td147 and dl160, don't even have to lift the needle:)

i also had a denon dp60L,  vintage turntables is a passion so glad to see u r interested.

Wow, your post is much more help than I could have asked for.  I really appreciate you taking the time to write all that out.  I'm open to belt and direct drive tables, and thankfully my floors are tile and solid because I live in a basement apartment.  I'd definitely like a table that I could potentially upgrade in the future.  I'm somewhat of a tinkerer so I could definitely see myself swapping out cartridges and stuff.  I really don't want to pay more than $200 for a table, considering my old turntable was an Audio-Technica LP120 (I know...) and I was using the built-in preamp (I know...), so I'll need to get a new preamp.

Anyway, thanks a ton for the advice!

no problem,

with your budget  you could afford a nice td 160 and a tc 760 preamp for both mm/ and moving coil carts .

i got my td147 for 230 and upgraded it.  the 160 super go for higher, but if you are planning on replacing the tonearm anyway td147 is the same.

ive heard the audio technica and its line out, i think you will be pleased with the upgrade. and you will be able to upgrade tonearm latter if you want,    just get one that has a detachable head shell because u said u wanted to experiment with carts.

glad i could help

have fun!!
