This player has been in my family since we purchased it new in 1998. I just got it back from my father because he's moving. I hadn't seen or heard the player in about five years and was blown away both by its mint condition and fantastic sound.
I'm listing this as an interest check because, apart from subscribing to Audiogon's blue book, I have no idea what the market value of a player like this is. I know the player was close to $4,000 USD when we purchased it new. It still functions perfectly, I have the original box and the original remote. I will post pictures of this player over the next few days. The pictures will tell the story better than I can, but I simply can't believe this player has been lovingly used for as long as it has...it literally looks brand new. I removed the top of the unit and used a computer duster to gently blow out any accumulated dust.
It has both a coax and optical digital output so it would make a first-class transport if nothing else. However, with its twin PCM1702 chips, HDCD decoding, and Krell fully balanced output stage it makes a compelling argument for whether or not we've made as much progress as we think when it comes to digital sound. Yes, I think the Cambridge 840C that I own has the edge (which means we HAVE made some progress) but the sound of the Krell is incredibly impressive.
All offers will be considered, please PM me with interest.
