Good First Amp ?

Hey guys im new to headphones amps and currently only have an onkyo AV amp, the amp will be using my pc as a source or ipod/iphone if thats better, playing Flac music powering grado sr-80's. 

will having an amp add any benifit to me ? or would it be a waste, also what should i look at for a first amp ?

yeah im looking at new headphones, dont know what to get though, i also have a pair of astro A40 gaming headphones which i MUCH prefer to the grados despite getting worse reviews in terms of sound quality, so im not really sure what to upgrade to : /
