After being away from Head-Fi for a while I've been venturing into good old upgraditus territory again and recently purchased this RS-1i from Mr. Sneis to reacquaint myself with upper-end Grado goodness. I bought a pair of HF-2s at the same time and have been comparing them over the past week or so. After much deliberation I've decided that I slightly prefer the HF-2s presentation. Lucky you, because as result I'm offering up this stunning RS-1i. On the Audiogon scale it would have to be rated a 9/10 simply because it's been used. Cosmetically it is like a brand-new headphone for all intents and purposes, such as these things are with a Grado. There is an EXTREMELY slight blemish on the left cup near the "G" in "Grado" that looks like a factory boo-boo in the finish, but it's hardly noticeable.The stitching on the headband is completely tight and there are no tears or rips in the leather. The "L" and "R" silver lettering on the adjustment blocks is completely intact. The yokes are as good as I've seen on a RS-1. The cable is pristine and the "Y" junction perfect. The bowl pads are also like new. Serial number is 7339.
Sonically it's a wonderful, wonderful headphone. If I hadn't heard the HF-2 I'd be keeping them because they're just a joy to listen to, particularly with reversed bowls. And it's probably the most comfortable Grado heapdhone I've ever used due to the lightness of the mahogany cups. Since Mr. Sneis is an excellent photographer and took some great shots of this RS-1i, here's a link to his original for sale post. I hope he doesn't mind. This pair includes the original Grado pizza box (mysteriously labeled RS-1 instead of RS-1i), the Grado extension cable (new & unused), the Grado 1/4" to 1/8" adapter (new & unused), the warranty document, the unused warranty registration card, and a business card from Todd the Vinyl Junkie (I assume from whom they were originally purchased). It will be carefully packed for shipping.
