Dead left channel on Grado 325i Headphones. Help?

Hello.  The left channel on my Grado headphones stopped working.  I thought it was the cable and replaced it but it still does not work.  I should have tested the left side before replacing the cable(dumb).  Has anyone heard of a driver going dead on a Grado?  If yes, is it possible to find another or must I send it back to Grado for repairs?  The local repair center quoted $170.00 for a headphone repair.  

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Cheers,  Doug

Yes, drivers occasionally fail on Grados.  If you've already been in them once, ca you open them up again?  If you have a DMM, check for continuity across the driver.  That will tell you if the problem is the driver or something else.  If it is the driver, I'd send them to Grado.

Thanks for the response.  I haven't closed the headphone yet and will check it with my voltage meter.  Do I simply apply the negative and positive from the DMM to each driver terminal and check for resistance?  Cheers,  Doug

Pretty much. But don't leave it connected for too long.

Just checked it and the left side is dead.  The right side registers approx 30 ohms.  Back to Grado it goes.  Cheers and thanks for the help,  Dub
