I was really eying the MDR-R1, but as stated before, it just doesn't seem like a true heir.

I see the price has gone up quite a bit from when I bought mine...

**sigh**

Well also look for the 7520 since hifiguy (a reviewer) has both z1000 and 7520 and claims there is no sonic difference. And what's wrong with the 1R?

Ah I wasn't clear.

I haven't tried it myself, but based on the impressions from people who generally have either similar preferences, or people who tend to "hear like I do" haven't exactly said things that have excited me.

I'd like to still give them a fair shot some day though... it's just the only two Sony Stores around me didn't even have one out to demo

yeah im not sure what sonys trying to do now. i tried the x line of sony in best buy, its 300 bucks, same price as the "premium" flagship 1R. it didnt impress me at all, i cant tell you how it sounds like because i only demoed it for a minute or so but it was not impressive. my brief impression told me my z1000 is in a different league. i havent tried the 1R yet. besides the former "flagship" after sony discontinued z1000, the ma900 is also in current production and is 300 bucks. so which one is the flagship? im confused...

the 1R is not the current flagship at all. IMO the z1000 is still the flagship however it is already discontinued. i dont think sony will release a flagship that has a "consumer sound" in it =)

The R10 will likely always be Sony's true flagship.

At least for a long time...

actually i think the sound of z1000 can be enjoyable to anyone, audiophiles or not. i dont know about neutrality but i feel confident saying the sound is "balanced". clean mids and high with rich bass, i think anyone can enjoy that smily_headphones1.gif

agreed. although i still cant get around with that one peak i always hear with the z1000, haha. although i already solved that problem by stuffing an open-cell foam inside the cups. now it sounds more enjoyable even with the stock cable.

I know, z1000 can sound fatiguing sometimes frown.gif I can deal with it though, maybe I just have to pair it with a warmer amp or something

That's kinda like saying hd800 is not sennheiser's flagship because the he90 exists. Don't you think? tongue.gif

Sure,

But the Z1000 is no longer in production either wink.gif

I was simply following a definition of "flagship" that fit the same parameters of calling the Z1000 such.

I agree most with the statement that Sony doesn't currently have a flagship in production.

True, why do I keep thinking z1000 is still currently in production? LOL maybe its because I got it right before it got discontinued.

I'm interested in comparison between the Z1000 and HD650. I have Z1000s and am considering purchasing 650, but if the difference doesn't justify the $400 price tag, I'll reconsider...

well i only have z1000, no experience with the hd650 but i would think the hd650 if anything is more of a sidegrade than upgrade... so i think if you are looking to upgrade, you may want to look elsewhere...

LOL, I have no experience with HD650 whatsoever but it's not worth it. Classic, just classic. tongue.gif
