The "coathangers" for one.  WTF is up with that weird salmon color?  Why not white like rest of it?  I generally like the look of AKG 'phones, well except the new alien blood green ones.  I don't think there's actually any way to actually make something based on the K1000 concept look good, but that's no reason to assign random colors to random parts as it appears they did.

This of course has no bearing on how they sound, which is the most important thing.  I still think its amusing to point out that everyone involved in the design must have been completely colorblind or something.

Subtlety and transparency are key in good design. I expect a headphone's design to be as transparent as the sound it produces. Semantics.

The K 1000 has a square headband. Temple pads. Grilles reminiscent more of microphones than headphones. The color of the headband has no well-known meaning. The general design of it looks so crude. There's no refinement to it.

If you want an example of a well designed headphone that operates on the same principle as the K 1000, check out the MDR-F1.

Yeah.. if the LCD2 is better then the HE6 that I'm auditioning now, I'm sold on the LCD2.. & faster & more detailed DT48.. Would be nice....

So, in a sense it would be increased detail in its purest form which, if you have good recordings, should hopefully lead to better overall sound :P.

I would be very happy for Sony to pull something like this off.

LCD-2 might be just what you want though, and I know you have been waiting a long time for your new headphone. D7000 -> HD 800, T1 and now the LCD-2 and the Sonys... the choices never seem to end which is both good and horrid.

You like the faithfulness of a flat FR, but would like a better soundstaging and more detail. Seems to me the LCD-2 is exactly that -> extremely quick driver, very flat FR and excellent imaging. Hopefully you can audition a pair sometime soon.

You need to listen to both and then draw your conclusions. The are three pair that were sold this week. Some people do not like the LCD2. In any event you need to hear both and then see what your preference will be. Impressions by others is not the same as listening with your own gear. Just my 2 cents

very good advice Frank!

at the same time, they resell for the same, or more than new, so it very much is worth the wait to get them into your home with your own gear, as you have nothing to lose currently.

Having owned a F1 I can assure you that the only similarity to K1000 is it being open.

Many, myself included find the K1000's styling avant garde, and it's sound sublime.

I was referring to its visual appearance rather than the sound. I've heard neither so I can't comment on their sound. The styling of the K 1000 is unconventional for sure, but the issue remains that it isn't particularly tasteful or refined.

Again, its sound is probably a whole other story, to which my statements do not apply.

Maybe not  tasteful or refined to you.

Take my word for it,they LOOK much better in real life

Anyway it would be nice if this thread went back on topic, which is all about Team Sony's latest and we hope greatest.

If it is better than the CD3000/SA5000 and with a magnesium and leather build it should be a winner.

I for one will be taking the plunge if it meets the above.

Yes they do appear to be closed.

But the CD3000's appeared to be as well but are semi closed.

The SA5000's appeared to be open but are semi closed.

With Sony you never know.

I didn't read the entire thread... is there any word on what the drivers are made from?

All this talk about aesthetics... I don't listen to my headphones with my eyeballs.  Also, all headphones look equally dumb when you're wearing them unless you are particularly attractive .  There are always those players who comment on the quality of the headphones before they've even listened to them.  *Not subscribing*

Technical proficiency, build quality, quality of materials used, conceptual science, and the ultimate sound are all different things.

This is all just hypothetical talk, and preemptive discussion. No one is saying they know how the headphone is going to sound.

To some people aesthetics are a big thing, to others no. Personally, I could wear two dead rats on my head if it offered the best sound quality. However, being good looking is an added benefit, albeit superfluous to the actual purpose of a headphone.
