Piccolo MC Headamp, better than bugle?

i have read so many bugle praise on  forums, so i figured the piccolo mc phonostage would be awesome.

does anyone have any experience with this mc headamp/phonostage/ ????

and how does the cornet 2 compare?  i almost got the cornet, but the gain on the piccolo makes me think it can compete with the nighthawk???????

thanks

The Picolo and the Bugle are different things.

The Piccolo is a headamp. It is designed to provide gain to a low output MC (or low output MI)cartridge to then feed into a phono stage.

The bugle is a phono stage. it does the RIAA thing, and provides gain.

If you have a MM, MI, or HOMC cartridge you need the Bugle.

If you have a LOMC or LOMI cartridge you need a headamp (or SUT) AND a phono stage (the headamp/SUT may be built into the phono stage) to play your fuzzy warbles.

Edited/added:

The coronet is (more or less) an all tube bugle. For comparasons you should czek out various speaker forums. IME the speaker forums have slightly broader knowledge of competing brands than the 2 that get mentioned on head-fi. Audio-GD dosnt make a phono stage, which leaves RSA to get all the headphone phono-stage business...

As far as a DIY comparason of the piccolo (or correctly a piccolo coupled to a bugle) VS a RSA shaddow one would need the schematics of the Shaddow. Historically Ray has not been too forthcoming with design details. You could always obtain either, and needledrop from the same tt.

so the piccolo is just an adjustable sut.    had i paid closer attention to detail, i would have realized this.  well it certainly looks very cool.   the cornet  looks awesome as well, almost pulled the trigger,  but i wanted to try adjustable gain.

for the moment i plan to a/b the mc phono on  a carver c 1 vs a Tc 760 Lc vs. cam 640p... (i am hoping the tc760 Lc with gain adjusted will best the cam 640 p of which i have not been impressed for the price at least)

i never had an mc phono stage with gain,  so i may be overly optimistic but, depending on how it affects sq .   i may consider the nighthawk which i am admiteddly skeptical about, but dual gain is indeed very cool.

piccolo coupled to a bugle must have great synergy!!  thanx nikongod u rock bro
