All their headphones, not sure about other equipment, made in China as well, except K701/702, I believe, so, they are not much differ from the rest in that regard.

My pair of AKG K240 MKII were made in Austria. I think some of their Chinese headphones are the ones more targeted towards consumers, such as the 142 /272 and earbuds.

I haven't heard the EMIT tweeters, but I own the Infinity Beta series, which are CMMD. To me, the CMMD have a very good sound, and I picked mine up refurbished from HK's online ebay shop. It should be noted that the CMMD was a trickle down technology, and can still be found in the Revel Concerta series.

Yeah, after Harman took over Infinity Systems, Inc.,
Infinity went from the revolutionary planar EMIT tweeters and planar EMIM midranges to CMMD speakers for the mass market.
Granted, they did have a couple of high-end designs such as the Prelude, etc., that were well reviewed.
The CMMD drivers, [ceramic metal matrix diaphragm], do have some advantages over polypropylene, paper, kevlar, and plain metal diaphragms, but they still cannot match the speed, detail, clarity, and openness of the older Infinity EMIT tweeters and EMIM midranges, IMHO.

The Harman brands, owned by that company
http://www.harman.com/EN-US/OurProducts/Harmanbrands/Pages/AKG.aspx
and some details on the company
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harman_International_Industries
When a company has a history of buying and selling brands as and when it suits the owner and commercial conditions, I do not think that it driven in the same way as a company such as Musical Fidelity which is a brand on its own run by its founder.

When I saw these Quincy line few days ago I was really disappointed and have sent an email to AKG asking what were they doing all these years, did they just painted K701. They forwarded my question to Croatian distributor and few minutes ago I got reply. He is saying changes are not only in cosmetics and that himself gave a Q701 good listen at the IFA and that sounds was noticeably different in behalf of Q701.
Seems like we should hold our horses for a while. Just because there's no announcement of a new revolutionary driver doesn't mean they didn't do anything to K701.

Are you saying this from personal experience? You realized there's nothing revolutionary in T1 compared to DT880?
Just kidding.

Harman announce a paint job and famous name sponsorship for some of their AKG range, but fail to mention a new driver? What and miss out on that sales opportunity? Rubbish!

Everything seems to be conspiring to chip a way at my sanity. AKG, renowned Austrian make of headphones and microphones has stooped to the lowest common denominator and adopted Monster business plan. For the love of god, why alien blood green!? Why? That color is actually painful to my eyes. It makes Monster's headphones look tasteful and refined. Most Skullcandies too. I didn't know that was possible. I didn't want to know that was possible...

At least you won't be spending any money on the new cans, so something good has come out of this.
