Exactly what I would say. But being a closed headphone, the bass impact is a little more than the DT880.

Sir MH... as correct as you are in your assessment of the DT770 having great isolation (much better than the Denons), and the Beyer comfort is stratospheric, I must respectfully disagree about the DT770 having more (even a little) bass impact than the DT880.
Burned them in, I did. Back and forth A / B / A / B / A... nope, not the 250 ohm, and not the 600 ohm. The 880 has better extension (by octaves), and overall more punch. Sorry, but to my ears (and my measurements bore this out) I got a rapid drop-off at 500hz. The DT880 remained relatively flat and almost 15 db louder throughout the lower register. My ears, my measurements, YMMV, and whatnot.
Not saying they are bad at all... just disagree with this one point. Carry on.

Do you guys think that it's really worth it, $ wise and difference in sound wise, to own different closed cans? I mean it really slims down to personal taste. For example, you have Denon closed cans that produce some of the most fun sounding and coolest bass (that's my opinion) but they tend to get very annoying at times and I can't seem to wear them for too long because they fatigue my ears quickly as the sound can become so dominant on them. And then, you have other closed cans such as the DT 770 from Beyer, SRH 840 from Shure, and Ultrasones (I guess the most popular of brands for closed cans), all in which produce excellent bass as well, but each is slightly different in sound quality, bass extension, dominance of bass with low, mids, and highs, and overall sound performance (balance perhaps). Let's say for example, I just purchased a pair of DT770 and love them to death, then I go for a SRH840, and possibly an Ultrasone...seeing that they are all the same in they're closed cans, but a little different in performance, will I really see myself switching from my beloved DT770 once in a while because I need a different sound taste from a closed can or is it just not worth it unless I'm going from a closed can to an open can which can be a very broad switch? I'm not really sure if one can become very bored from a closed can he loves because I believe that after a long time of use, people tend to get used to their cans so well that it becomes very easy for them to distinguish the difference in sound on a new closed can.
I say that because I'm really just contemplating to narrow my decision down to one favorite closed can and then possessing to 1 or 2 open cans because I know that diverse open cans can exemplify extreme distinction. (ie: akg k701 vs. sennheiser hd-650) and it can be fun for one to actually switch from one open can to another from time to time, all in favor of personal preference.
There is just as much difference between different closed headphones as there is between different open. I think they question is how many headphones you need overall?
Personally I could do with two. But three like I current have is perfect. They are really nothing alike eachother and covers just about all bases together.
I prefer open can by far. I do own three closed cans that I enjoy. My 1001 is used only with my ipod. I have the D7000 which is really different from the 770 600. I enjoy all the cans. But in the end if I do decide that I like the LCD2 I believe the D7000 will be sold. I find most times I listen to my T1 but it is nice to change up. The 770 are my mini T1

Sir shane:
No worries, my A-B with the DT880/600 and DT700/600 was very quick (I did sell off the DT880s pretty quick when the T1s arrived) and my bass impact findings were fairly casual. You may be correct on that point. Not sure if you were using a tube amp though? I find the 600 ohm beyers have more bass impact with tubes.
Cheers
The only closed headphones I listen to any more are D7000. The others are either tiring in their own right (SRH840) or more muddled (D5000) and neither are as pleasing overall. If I want to relax and listen to something for hours, I reach for my HD600. A similarly relaxing closed headphone might be DT250-250, but I didn't like their lack of soundstage and returned them.
M50 owners, do you think it's a good idea to own the DT770 600 ohm and M50, or will it be a waste for the M50 considering I have the DT770 600 ohm? I'm thinking since it's approximately $100, I might pick me up a pair...but I don't know if I'll end up returning it because I might use the DT770 way more. Is the M50 that much different than the DT770 600 ohm or am I just better off with the DT770 for a closed can...or quite possibly is it really personal preference between the two although there is an acceptable price margin?

I did own both, and would have kept the DT770/600 had they been all I wanted them to be. My hope is that the D7000 will fit that bill.
It all depends on your uses. I have the M50's for mobility. I wanted the DT770 for big rig listening / editing, etc. If you have different uses for each, and can afford each (monetarily and space / room wise)... sure. Why not?

Heh, heh... no tubes. But used the same sources / DAC-Amp, etc. for both. Kept variables to one... the cans.
Prolly right about tubes and impact... but that's another topic.

With my Decware tube amp they sound fantastic the 770 is really nice for closed can option. But then again my amp was designed with Beyer headphones and 600ohm cans in mind. The T1 is in another league but the 770 are really very good for me at its price range. I have never heard the 880 so not sue but one is open and one is closed. Love the tubes though.

If the W1000x did actually isolate I would add it to the list. However I could still recommend it for an open headphone instead.
Nowadays I am listening just about exclusively to the DX 1000 and ED 8 for closed headphones.
Audio Technica W11R
Haven't heard better mids other than the Stax Omega 2 =)
Isolate well, hardly leak any sound at all and have a lovely neutral sound - AKG K271 MkII.
