*newb alert* Ipod LOD/dock question

So a couple of days ago I busted out my old ipod 4g, and it sounds....very average. I'm thinking that if I got a LOD and a small amp I'd be all set for a rig I could use @ work. My question is this - will a product like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BRAND-NEW-OEM-APPLE-IPOD-W-CLICKWHEEL-DOCK-M9602G-A-/320504137243?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories#ht_1139wt_1137

give me what I'm after, or should I be shopping for a boutique LOD? I don't want to enter the "do cables make a difference" debate so for the purposes of this thread let us assume that is a non-factor.

Portable wasn't really the idea. I was chasing something that would let me listen to music @ my desk that didn't use my laptop's crappy sound. If that dock will give me the same line out as a boutique LOD cable I'll drop a few $ on a bravo amp like this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Valve-Class-Tube-Headphone-Amplifier-pre-Bravo-V2-/260658993548?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb07c998c#ht_5904wt_1137 and then I'll be able to play music at work without using my laptop.

Don't those docks tend to have circuitry and stuff?  Get a regular ipod dock to RCA or mini cable, or someone around the forums can make you one.
