Before I make a bad purchase...

What DT770 OHM version is needed for portable devices (I have a Zen). There is like 3-4 versions of DT770 :-O ? Just asking since I read a few times that higher or lower OHM is not an indicator of a HP working properly with a device.

I personally found the 80Ω version to be easily driven.  With that said, I can't say that I used them directly out of a portable device unamped.  They make a 32Ω version that's supposed to be ideal for portable applications, but I've never tried them and they're supposed to lack the 80Ω version's legendary (depending on preference of course... they're polarizing) low end.

 

If you don't already own an amp you should definitely make the investment sooner than later.  It's an absolute essential if you plan to listen to mid to high end headphones and the DT770 80/250/600Ω scales very well to the amp you use with it.
