Received my new HD25-1 II. They rock but THEY HURT!

Hey guys (&girls),

I picked up my new HD25-1 II yesterday. Bought it secondhand for 75 euro (can you believe that? It's still 199 euro new here) and it's MINT. Headphone-bargain of the year for me. Price-wise anyway...

BUT!

They are very uncomfortable! They clamp and my ears start to burn after 10 minutes. I couldn't wear the AKG K518DJ either for this reason. Do the velour pads make a big difference? Are there any mods I can try? Any help is greatly appreciated because I love the HD25-1's sound and I would feel sad having to sell them again.

Those headphones should come with a health warning, shame as they sound good.

Look on the position on your ears, you need to adjust and place it more toward front of your ears.

I tried! My ears are too big! :) I can't get it to rest comfortably for more than 15 minutes. I need less clamping force or softer pads. Or another headphone!

I got mine about 2 hours ago and worm them for most of the time.  I must be lucky and have a good shaped head for these cans.  I am amazed at the sound these put out.  very nice

I really have no issues at all with my HD 25's comfortwise, they have a snug fit but it never gets uncomfortable for me.

I guess it depends on the person, maybe i just have a small head.

Do give your ears some time to adjust to the phones, I bet you'll get used to it.

You sure got yourself a hell of a deal, they sound amazing even for the full retail price imo, i enjoy them just as much as my HD 600's :)

Try velour pads and stretch your headband but be careful dont stretch it too much.

What I do in order to alleviate the clamping pressure is to bend the headband so that it's looser on my ears before each listen.  You don't have to worry about snapping/breaking the plastic as it is pretty malleable and strong.  Problem is that its plastic also have a very strong memory and will bend back into place without it on your head, so you need to do it everytime before each listen.

I am wearing them a lot now, daily, for about two hours at a time. Forcing my ears to adjust to their clamp since the sound is too good to give up. I stretched them out a bit by putting them over my desktop pc's enclosure (Antec 902, nice 'n broad) for a day. I repeat this whenever I feel they are starting to clamp again. It's not that bad anymore although 2 hours is pushing it. My ears hurt after that much HD25. :)  The soundsignature is new to me. They make my RE0 sound cheap! I always though the RE0 had great detail recovery but the HD25-1 excel. They even have a little soundstage! Slightly out of the head. More than my Grado's in any case. Not as much as my AD700 ofcourse. I thought these cans were going to be very bassy but I actually find them very neutral. I even add some bass on certain tracks using my Arrow's bassboost. I also add +1 crossfeed to tame the strong right/left signature and "push" the music a bit further away from me. They make my metal records sound absolutely engaging and I actually heard some new sounds here and there that I hadn't heard before! If only these were as comfortable as the AD700.
