Whiplash Elite Twag OM Cable - Anyone interested in black rather than the silver? - Page 3

Here it is starting to turn gray.  I put in some more wire as it's going to be a long time before it's getting any darker.  To do this professionally you'd need some sort of agitator like a mini washing machine or something to keep it so the wire is getting even contact with the dye and everything is circulating.

Please be careful with any dyes or paints on TWag, one does not want to change the composition of the insulator of the TWag, it is one of the keys to its sound.  I worked for a long time to get the insulation exactly right.

Peace,

Yeah nobody go dying their finished cables... I'm just doing an experiment.

I've stained a bundle of wire for more than a week now.  It has a pretty deep charcoal color.  Probably going to make a cable for my car with it, the key is patience and concentrated stain to get PE insulation to hold onto a color.  I'm going to give it another week though, so it's really black.  The cool thing is that it's still see-through so you can see the copper, there's no way to make it be all the way black as the stain is trapped in the outer part of the insulation and can't deeply permeate it.

3+ weeks of staining leads to a color like this.  It may be able to go darker still, but I doubt it.  I plan to try colors like green and blue next.
