Help me select some good IEM's for my cMoyBB please! :)

Howdy folks!

New user here...I've lurked quite a bit and spent hours reading reviews, but cannot seem to come to a definitive conclusion. I keep jumping around from option to option, and then realized I should maybe ask for some help in this matter. Sorry for asking the million dollar question for the 100000th time - I just think I could really benefit from some specialized suggestions based on the amp I have.

Okay, so first a bit of background so you can gauge what I'm looking for:

I listen to a lot of EBM, IDM, Psychedelic Trance, Drum n Bass, Aggrotech, Breakbeat, House, etc. I listen to a lot of other stuff, but generally it is all Electronica of some variety. I also love stuff like The Cure, and lighter/progressive rock from the 80's.

I love punchy bass, but I also love being able to hear the articulate patterns that artists' synthesizer patches are comprised of - that being said, I've gotten a really big hate on for overwhelming bass, and this is why:

My first "real" headphones were a pair of AKG-K450's. I say were, because it didn't take me long to get over the initial awe of higher end audio devices and realize that I could barely make out the vocals and non bass line synthesizers that I love so much. It got to the point where my head hurt from listening to them. It probably didn't help that the cord broke internally, and with the would be easy to replace detachable cord, came no way of fixing them myself. AKG Canada wanted $30 for the cord, and another $15 to ship it. No way!

I am on a somewhat tight budget but need some new IEM's for commuting on the bus to school every day...my price range is $80-140 or so. I have no problem buying used if someone responding here has a suitable pair!

The main reason I started my own thread is to get some suggestions that will pair nicely with my cMoyBB amplifier. I built my own, so the bass boost can be adjusted instead of just turned on/off, so it shouldn't be too hard to pair it with something I think :) I just don't see a lot of mention of amplifying ability for some of these entry level IEM's in most of the reviews I read.

Initially, I was dead set on a pair of RE0's, but reviews consistently said they're aimed towards a very flat sound. I think the treble would be nice, but the lack of bass is a real killer for me, as I do enjoy colouration.

As for my taste in bass, I don't know how to describe it, but I think the best way would be to say I prefer a medium/fast punchy oomph - well rounded maybe? The CKS70's are at a good price point for me and appear of good quality, but I'm a little worried they'll be like the K450's where the bass is way too muddy and slow.

The other one that stands out are the Hippo VB's - they were suggested in another thread as one of the best trance-listening headphones. How do these hold up under amplification?

I'm sure I've missed some other good options, so please advise!

Many thanks!

EDIT: I think it might be beneficial for me to say that I'm looking for something that has good highs/mids, and acceptable/okay bass, but when amplified has amazing bass and still good highs and lows. Maybe that will make more sense.

I just stumbled across the IE7's, and there's every indicator of it being a good choice. Comments? (I know they're out of my price range, but not if I find them used)

Hi there, for the music you are listening to I advice to look into Radius DDM also know as first Dual Diaphragm Dynamic Driver phones.

This DDM have a very old-fashioned look but I wouldn't judge things by how they look.  Just check the reviews.

Here is a good one

p.s. you can get this in OEM version for around $120 or so from musicaacoustics.

Search the forum for what members comments

Have you ever heard sphongle? It is my favorite psychedelic trance group which goes so well with DDMs.  Mind blowing power!

There, you just described the RE0. Provided you are not a closet basshead and prefer quality over quantity. The DDM are superb, albeit with 2 caveits. One is that even OEM the price is still on the upper side of your budget. The other is fit, which from what I read is hard to achieve and nearly impossible with small ears. Other suggestions at that price range would be: Ety MC5 and Custom X3 if you can find them cheap  enough.
