Headphones with a subwoofer

<I dont know where to place this thread so if this is the wrong placem mods, please move this.>

I love my headphones to death. But it just lacks feet rumbling bass that my speakers with a sub provides, especially in movie effects.

Has anyone out there tried listening to their headphones with and added subwoofer? Im thinking of putting a splitter on the audio out of my dvd player and add an extra sub to my system. Has anyone tried this? Or is this extremely stupid?

I've heard of people doing this, but I have never done it. I'd imagine it would work quite well. It can't hurt to try! Tell us how it works out.

A few days ago somone was talking about some "perfect" system. And there was a subwoofer in there. You could search for that.

With my CD3000, and the PPA with bassboost activated (33K and 0.1uF) you do not need the Subwoofer at all, there is enough visceral bass or "rumbling bass", sometimes I even take them off to see if by mistake I have left it on, I feel it that way, and I have a pretty 12" Shiva Avatar, with a custom amp, good one

I have used a subwoofer with headphones many times and I think that it works great. I also have a tactile transducer. It is a Guitamer Buttkicker that shakes my entire couch with 1,500 watts from a bridged Peavey CS-1000X amplifier.

The Buttkicker is much better than a subwoofer for the feet rumbling bass that you are looking for.

I have an audiophile acquaintance who uses his subwoofer with AKG K1000's; he swears by it.

The HD650s with a good source and amp will cure your bass blues

When you compare these headphones to a top notch speaker setup, the bass sounds exactly the same, only there's no visceral impact on your whole body, just your head.

I was thinking about this some time ago, but somehow I haven't encouraged myself to post it here, so tortie did it first

no headphones, I mean no, that counts in also Sovkillers ones , could shake your body, you lack the feeling of the power through your brest and whole body, so properly configured subwoofer with open headphones would make some wonders I think.. but I've got no chance to experiment with this idea since I have no woofer..

IIRC Hirsch has used that same combo (better ask him) and according to him, was not his cup of tea, an external sub first is annoying for the rest of the family, and also maybe has some phase and delay problems, it sounds like an artificial bass added, not as accurate as the bass in the same ear-piece, I hear it that way in my system also, that was why I went for the bassboost, ....

Sorry, but if the subwoofer shake your body like that, is an artificial sound, and is not a properly configured one at all, what you got is those honda subwoofers you hear on the streets. No real bass in front of you, give you that exaggerated feeling, or at least not that pronounced, I have attended a lot of concerts and I like to feel the bass, and in my system, and in my experience with the CD3000 and the PPA wit the bassboost on, you do not need a subwoofer at all, YES, it gives you that visceral bass, you FEEL IT through your bones, not the hearing, it shakes your bones, like a subwoofer properly configured.....this your are mentioning, IMO is not a proper configured one.....

ok ok I wrote it bad way.. 'couse I can't speak english well but I'm sure you already know that

I just meant the energy you feel when you attend some live performance such as in some jazz club (or when I pay a visit to my friend, who owns pretty nice setup even w/o sub)

True. Artificial in phase relation to the headphone driver outputs but perhaps more acurate and realistic to the tactile response on the rest of the body. That is why a tactile trasducer may work better than a subwoofer. Now only if I could get smell-o-vision to work in my setup.

When i used to have HD600 I didnt feel any bass really,no kick unless there's some very strong bass in the recording.CD3000s bass is much stronger. It doesnt stomp quite as heavyly as my megaworks' sub,but its very close and feels like real bass.I can say I dont miss speakers bass when I use CD3ks

And if you try the bassboost on the PPA, just for curiosity try 33K and 0.1uF on R7 and C7, you feel it even better, believe me, the Perreaux was magic, but not to that point, I miss the bass, with PPA, I may miss another things but not the bass, maybe an sparkle of details, that the Perreaux has, now I'm installing silver wire, let's wait to see, but I hope the second revision of the Perreaux will be better and no humming....let's see.....
The HD600 was never able to touch the CD3000 on these dpt (neither the other), the highs or lows seemed to me rolled off, another of the deceptions of the freq response in papers, the CD3000 is just 20-20,000 and the HD600 is supposedly 12-39,000 , that means one octave over each way... In its dreams!!!!
