If you have the 650's...just play some acoustic or jazz.

Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven (Unplugged)

This is an excellent recording!  I really enjoy this album and use it as a reference.  Very well recorded.

Santa Monica - Theory Of A Deadman: Gasoline (Special Edition)

Have your friends listen for the "dog bark/chair scrape" sound at the 2:59 mark.

FWIW, that's the song that started my wife thinking that maybe my new "expensive" headphones might be pretty cool after all. smily_headphones1.gif

For me, one of my alltime favorite reference albums is The Goat Rodeo Sessions.  It's a four-way collaboration of Chris Thile, Yoyo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and Stewart Duncan...each of them top level masters of their instruments and incredibly innovative...I feel like the best way to describe the music is a cross between bluegrass and classical.

As for the recording quality, it's absolutely fantastic...the soundstage is outstanding, you can practically make out where each musician is sitting...and above all else, it's REALLY GOOD MUSIC!

Another cool thing is they filmed themselves while they were recording the album, so you can watch them play the actual album in 1080p on youtube.  (For a sound system demo though, definitely go for a lossless flac file, you can even buy a 24/96 for a small chunk of change)

Recommended songs:  'Attaboy', and 'Here and Heaven'

... I've got a list of 9 Songs, some new some old all with a different poutpose. I just changed up the list today, included some metal for an added genre! As the Shamisen is not a well know instrument, but the Guitar is... and both share a nice upper mid presance!

THE LIST [Ofc all of them Flac 16bit] But bear with youtube plz

Warning: Videos (Click to show)

Lisa Edkhal- Lyrics showcase mix of upper and lower mids, vocal details and overall balance

Upper lower mids, and 2D sound stage. VERY mid heavy track, can get congested on cans without good mid detail and clarity

[again youtube sucks]

Vocal DnB, balance of Deep Sub Bass, mids and Highs.

Rock Tune, focus on Sound Stage, and over all clarity. focus on balance and a tight Bass Line

Dub Step tune, tight deep bass and a nice Lower mid Wobble. With a playful mid intro.

Metallica- Oron- once again balance. My favorite and only still loved Metal Tune, a good mix of aggression and beauty... something a good set of cans handles, Cliff's Beautiful Bass Line and those raging Guitars

I'm sure I heard about this one hear at head-fi first. Hard to find though.

The demonstration in the first song will shred peoples minds to pieces. It's my reference recording for those who may not understand what high end audio is capable of.
