As someone loving the HD650 but looking for that next step, would the LCD2 be the correct way to go?

Are there any difference between the bamboo and rosewood versions?

I'm looking at both the HD800 and the LCD2, but am leaning towards the latter due to the coloration and laid back nature of the cans that I love right now - I think it would be a easier transition.

Knowing this site and myself though, I would probably end up buying both and going with what sounds best. I unfortunately cannot audition them before ordering

I'd go with the bamboo if you are okay with the looks. Saves you some weight and neck strain.

I don't mind the look, especially since the quality of rosewood seems to be luck of the draw... fantastic at times, nice most of the time.

Bamboo always looks quite stunning. Maybe not as beautiful as really nice rosewood, but the odds seem better with bamboo!

No acoustic differences though? Not that my ears would be sensitive enough to pick up what would be tiny differences if there were any.

No difference on the sound to me. I've heard both...

To me, the LCD-2 is the next logical step if you like the HD-650 sound signature. It improves on every aspect of the HD650s sound, but retains a dark, warm, and lush character. Like the HD650, the LCD-2 scales well and responds well to amplifiers with different sound signatures. You can tailor the sound of both of these headphones, depending on your amp choice. I don't have much listening time with the HD800, but it has very different sound signature with a lot more treble energy.

Funny I rather disliked the HD650s, but loved the LCD-2s. I really didn't find them much alike except for that neither was bright.

So Peter,  Did you like the HD600s at all?

I did. Had I owned them instead of the HD650s, I would held onto them much longer.

That and the clamp...oh the clamp.

I live on the east coast of England and this is one of the coldest and wettest places on earth. Mine have been fine :) Just keep em indoors.

If you go after a used pair watch out for the old design, the wood can be affected by climactic change and split/crack around the connectors. But the new connectors are much better, and the bamboo in particular is a more robust material in this regard.

What is the soung signature like on the LCD2? Flat?

Only if the source material is wink.gif
