I have dreadlocks - can confirm, leather band is great!

+1 as someone who always keeps shaved hair.  Wish Audeze would re-introduce the foam headband or an alternative in a similar design to it...

Well...For some of us with short/shaved hair, the leather band is very comfortable. Personal statements on comfort are far from absolute truth, and can easily become misleading. As with a lot of things, it's a matter of preference and opinion. Personally, as a guy with very short hair, I love the leather headband.

Have you tried the foam headband?

Are the earpads the same Lambskin leather as on the LCD-3 after the price increase? I've been torn between the LCD-2s and 3s for quite a while now. But I think I'll start with the 2s.

Would really appreciate if somebody could help me out.

It's not so much about how the leather headband is necessarily uncomfortable, but rather about how the foam headband is much more comfortable.  I can tolerate the comfort level of the leather headband and if I had no other alternative I can probably live with it fine, but foam headband fits much better for me.  The thing with the leather headband is that it is divided into 4 "panels" (don't know how else to describe 'em) and this results in the weight of the headphone being concentrated on the two panels on the center of the headband over time, to me anyways.  If the headphone was lighter it wouldn't have been much of an issue, but as we all know the Planars tend to be heavy so I do feel it. Once those two panels are better worked in over time it's not as much of an issue, but in the beginning I definitely felt it (before I switched back to the foam headband anyway).

The foam headband seems to conform to top of my head much better with no specific hot spots like with the leather ones, and is much softer to boot.  It was a perfect design IMO comfort wise but I remember it got a lot of complaints when it first came out due to aesthetics (and a plain metal headband with foam glued to it with no fabric cover over it on a $1000 headphone does look out of place) so I do understand why they changed it to the leather ones.  And like I said earlier it's not like leather headband is unbearingly uncomfortable, it's just that I find the comfort of the foam ones better.

And as another user said above, YMMV according to personal tolerance levels, head shape differences, etc.

Because of the bulges on the leather headband, there is very little surface area which increases pressure. Pair that with a heavy headphone and very little padding, and you get a headphone that is very uncomfortable to some. Personally, they gave me headaches pretty quickly until I built a suspension headband for them even though I have a fair amount of hair on my head. With the suspension headband they're pretty comfortable (earpads are very cushy).

I'm interested in the answer to this as well.

Anyway here are a couple of pictures, I was told by the seller that they are from the first batch of rev 2s, can anyone confirm?

One way that gives it away that those are rev.2's is the grills. LCD2 rev.1's has Audeze Audio Research printing on the top whereas starting from the rev.2's it just says LCD2's. (Though one exception I have seen 2 rev.2 pairs that had the extra printing rev.1's exhibit, so YMMV). I doubt there is even a serial sticker present on the gimble holder (unless the seller swapped it out) as no rev.2's ever came with foam headbands, but a separate option you can buy through Audeze.

Audeze got back to me. They are in fact a Rev 1.

Well it's Audeze so not surprised they've used parts from both rev's.

What's fair value for a Rev1?
