Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread - Page 175

post #2611 of 3920
Is there a solution "all in one" amp with a good built in dac that gives justice to lcd2 (energy, bass, vocals) but still good and powerfull enough to be kept if upgrading to lcd3 or equivalent

For 600 $ 700 $ max budget

May be the question was asked numerous time sorry for that

Love my lcd 2's but i'd like to get more life, my asus essence st and g100 may be a little too clinical sounding

I like how people describe the mjolnir, being fast, wild and adding meat but not sure about mediums ant tubey sound i used to like before my last tubes amp started to sound weird

A black background is very important to me also

I use the Matrix Mini-i Pro. Works like a charm with the LCDs.

My options right now are:

Matrix Mini-I Pro + V200

Matrix Mini-I Pro + Taurus MKII (fully balanced)

NFB-10.32

The option I like most is the Taurus one, I travel a few times a year due to work and vacation needs and I carry some headphones with me, I would love to carry the LCDs (2, XC) and a not-very-big all-in-one amp like the Mini-I so at home I have the whole combo and while traveling, a small piece that works fine with my Audezes. Thats why the audio gd is the least i consider, but still, a top quality end sig for sure. The cheapest one is the first one tho.

Does anyone use a Schiit Vali, out of an iPhone line out, as a portable solution? Does the Vali have enough gain to drive the LCD loud when an iPod/iPhone is running into it?

 Vali drives it more than loud, however it's not what I would consider portable...

Maybe transportable would be the more proper term. Taking it to a friends house would be much easier than say, a Lyr!

I think I'm ruined for life. Just started listening to some of the original Japanese and West German CD pressings of Floyd.....what a match with the LCD-2. smily_headphones1.gif

Thanks for suggestions
audio gd seems very attractive on paper

With a lcd 2.2 would it it be better to get :

wm8741 dac in the audio gd 10.33 or
es9018 sabre dac in the nfb 28

Around here it's about the same price 10.33 = 630 euros nfb 28 = 730 euros

Both are balanced

On audio gd china web site if you get the nfb 28 you can get dsd

Worth a try ???

Tonton, At somestage you're going to need to make a leap of faith.  I'm just making sure you don't jump off the wrong ledge!  :normal_smile :

I just didn't feel upgrading to the Mjolner and connecting your soundcard to it was a logical upgrade path.  :blink:

I think your amp is just fine at this stage of your journey.

Welcome to the era of the well-done masters! My hard drive is full of japan presses, toshiba-emi, sony, epic, sanyo... Meddles CP32-5032 sounds incredible, from the toshiba-emi black triangle. Also mike oldfields ones, and many more like maidens, metallicas... Makes you love your music even more! I tell you, yesterday, I was sitting on my couch listening to that Meddle master with a cold beer... Heaven!

Considering the "best value" options:

- Audio GD Compass 2 -> ESS Sabre 9018 and 2 watts @ 50ohms

- Audio GD NFB-28 -> ESS Sabre 9018 and 6 watts @ 50ohms

- Audio GD NFB-10.33 -> WM8741 and 6 watts @ 50 ohms

I would go for NFB-28, well, its the one Im looking at If I dont end buying the Auralic Taurus MKII with Matrix Mini-I Pro as balanced DAC.
