My options right now are:
Matrix Mini-I Pro + V200
Matrix Mini-I Pro + Taurus MKII (fully balanced)
The option I like most is the Taurus one, I travel a few times a year due to work and vacation needs and I carry some headphones with me, I would love to carry the LCDs (2, XC) and a not-very-big all-in-one amp like the Mini-I so at home I have the whole combo and while traveling, a small piece that works fine with my Audezes. Thats why the audio gd is the least i consider, but still, a top quality end sig for sure. The cheapest one is the first one tho.
Vali drives it more than loud, however it's not what I would consider portable...
Maybe transportable would be the more proper term. Taking it to a friends house would be much easier than say, a Lyr!
Tonton, At somestage you're going to need to make a leap of faith. I'm just making sure you don't jump off the wrong ledge!
I just didn't feel upgrading to the Mjolner and connecting your soundcard to it was a logical upgrade path.
I think your amp is just fine at this stage of your journey.
Welcome to the era of the well-done masters! My hard drive is full of japan presses, toshiba-emi, sony, epic, sanyo... Meddles CP32-5032 sounds incredible, from the toshiba-emi black triangle. Also mike oldfields ones, and many more like maidens, metallicas... Makes you love your music even more! I tell you, yesterday, I was sitting on my couch listening to that Meddle master with a cold beer... Heaven!
Considering the "best value" options:
- Audio GD Compass 2 -> ESS Sabre 9018 and 2 watts @ 50ohms
- Audio GD NFB-28 -> ESS Sabre 9018 and 6 watts @ 50ohms
- Audio GD NFB-10.33 -> WM8741 and 6 watts @ 50 ohms
I would go for NFB-28, well, its the one Im looking at If I dont end buying the Auralic Taurus MKII with Matrix Mini-I Pro as balanced DAC.
