Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread - Page 169

are you using the v200 xlr inputs? in that case i can understand the -12, i use -6 right now. EDIT/ since both v800 and mdac have a high xlr output ~15dBu /EDIT

the color of the rosewood will get darker over time, give it a good dose of wax and it will darken when it drys

v200 and lcd2 calls for:

Al Di Meola - Diabolic Inventions and Seduction for Solo Guitar Vol.1 Music of Astor Piazzolla

Ottmar Liebert - Nouveau Flamenco

Carlos Heredia - Gypsy Flamenco

Carlos Santana early stuff

and if you like jazz the v200 lcd2 pairing knows no competition (well maybe the v200 lcd3), so keep it coming, been listening lately to Yuji Ohno Lupin III Jazz The 3rd Funky & Pop

same goes for enka music

My cables. My seller said "I listened to the cable last night on my LCD2.2 and it sounded very good compared with my Toxic Cables Silver Poison."

I tried the 0 gain but for some reason didn't sound right and went back to the -12.  On the V200 someone said that the V200 sounds better with the volume pot more open.  Or maybe the slight extra bass is making the LCD-2 sound darker on the 0 setting.

Thanks for the suggestions for music. I was listening to Los Lonely Boys - Onda and man the drum solo towards the end is a joy to listen to on these cans.

oh, yes, now comes to mind that i really enjoyed a lot taiko groups with the lcd2, like kodo and similar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodo_%28taiko_group%29

with the v800->xlr->v200 i find 0dB pre-gain to make the lcd2 airier and less dark than the lower settings, guess it's more up to the source being used

after hd800, hd650, beyer t1, lcd3 and other, i can say the lcd2 are to be kept, at least with the v200, since it really performs gorgeously with all the cans, too bad i sold them :\ T-T

Do you think that playing with the gain and the volume knob level has an influence on the sound ??
Or it's just subjective ???

I've heard that it's better to have the amp volume around 12 o'clock when playing loud, does it make sense ??

ofc it does, people hear differences in different cables (even with interconnections), and than argue if input/output values matching has any effect, lol, no there is no differences because we live in a world where all your dacs, pre-amps, amps and every component inside them are 100% perfectly linear working devices ! right !

for example the lcd diaphragm is like a drumhead that will expand and stretch with temperature changes and behave differently at different temperatures, i'm surprised audaze didn't provide a specification for the lcds working temperature and humidity range

i guess it's highly dependent on the setup and highly subjective

You are right, it must the source.  But according to Violectric, the gain settings don't affect the sound.  Oh well as long as it sounds good...

Subjective. Just get the volume control past 7 or 8 o'clock and any channel imbalance will smooth out providing the pot is not faulty.  12-oclock is rubbish and any advice given as such will be ignored immediately - for the sake of your hearing.

:regular_smile :

You guys probably don't realise this, but the LCD2 threads were in the Summit-Fi forum, but was demoted to the 'regular' forum when the LCD3 came out.  Back then, the guys that do not post anymore had the LCD2 pegged as more transparent and tonally more accurate than its predominant rivals - The HD800 and HE-6.  These same guys do not post anymore - they came in got what was not being catered for - and moved on.

To put things in perspective, if this thread was still in summit-fi, I would be giving different advice, but it's not - regular head-fiers are a different breed to summit-fiers.  My subjective experiences leads me to believe I hear differences in anything and everything.  This is not the objective here at regular-fi.

Better to build a decent system that can get you there without the outrageous expenses.  Then we can try out other cans, then if someone wants to build a system around only one headphone, that is their choice and they can spend as much as they want.  If someone can afford to play around at summit-fi, that is good for them.  Most regular people can't.

For channel imbalance everyone should get an amp with High-grade volume control for
enhanced linearity and lowest crosstalk

I totally agree with the gain, as long as you get enough volume and have good steps to manage the knobs smoothly

I don't understand also why people are getting very good headphones with good amps (dac) hissing or humming, that makes no sense, a black background is such an upgrade !!!

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is the goal of 'summit-fi' and how does it differ from what's being offered up in this thread? Is summit-fi just a bragging rights thing, or is it actually a different philosophy? Thanks in advance.

I have been disconnected from the head-fi forum for a while and I don't know what was the reason to create de 'Summit-Fi' section, I guess it's because they wanted to separate the headphones that are costing more than $1000 versus the rest.

Anyway, the LCD-2 paired with the Schiit Mjolnir is still my 'endgame' setup.

I will continue my comparaison with the LCD-X this weekend but so far I prefer the 'darker' sound signature of my LCD-2.
