Hi,

I have a question regarding upgrading the cables on my LCD 2.2's

I'm looking at ALO cables does any one here have experience with the Green Line on a Schiit Mjolnir? Or would it be better to go one step up and go for the Salty Pepper ?

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks !!

I gather you've been to the first page and gone through the link for cabling LCD2s?  Otherwise I can't help.  I use the Norse cable and have no complaints with the sound improvements.

May I know why do you prefer the LCD-2.2 rather than the LCD-X?

It's signature better suited my tastes. It's by no means "better" or anything, I just prefer it

(You can probably tell I'm a bit careful about this subject, it makes people a little unhappy when I tell them I preferred the LCD 2.2)

Well it does make me happy, I'm planning to get myself an Audeze headphone and if the LCD-2.2 can also suit my taste better I'll be able to save up some money

In my opinion, Audeze wanted to present a reference product with the LCD2s...when I say reference volume, I mean if I strum an acoustic guitar...the playback needs to be at the same volume - like in this is real.  As we know, most of the time, including myself, we listen below the real volume...then you have no reference if it sounds real or not is just an illusion and opinion.

Obviously the crowd doesn't understand this and demanded something different...the LCD-Xs are a response to that demand, and it should be a good one at that...I'm very curious.

However, the measurements of the orginal LCD2s in terms of distortion, precision and linearity were not actually superseded.  I fear that the re-damping (tuning) might have negatively affected some of these measurements.  I think if I use an EQ if required, can do the same...without compromising the great measurements.

And that is why the LCD3 is still flagship...it is, same as LCD2, Audeze interpretation of accurate...and for most of my tracks - I side with their vision.

The only other headphone I am seriously wanting to hear is the STAX 009 amped with the famous BHSE - these are the only cans that can claim to measure a wee bit better than the 2s and 3s.  The Frequency response curve of the 009 looks acceptable, the distortion figures are a shade bit better.

I wish I could get to listen to some LCD-X phones. I heard the LCD2 and a bunch of other planar type phones and the Audeze were by far my favorite, even over the HE-6. I would like to give the HE-6 another shot though. SO many people rave about their sound I have to believe something upstream wasn't up to par but until I hear something better the LCD2 is still on my 'must have' list, along with the HD800.

I owned the LCD-2s for just over a year and still think they're one of the best headphones available at any price, but the LCD-Xs are better--and not by a little bit. The LCD-2 bass can be a little bloomy at times, and the LCD-X reins that in. The LCD-X also has a more detailed and coherent sound--and it's most apparent in the treble region. The soundstage on the LCD-X is also much larger than either the LCD-2 or the LCD-3. I always thought the LCD-3 was technically superior to the LCD-2, but didn't like the mid-centric slant and the fact that the LCD-3 soundstage is smaller than the LCD-2. The LCD-X is easily at the same technical level as the LCD-3 in terms of resolution, but has a much more neutral signature.

I can't argue with running an LCD-2 off of a Gungnir/Mjolnir stack and calling it a day, but Audeze offers two distinct upgrade paths with the LCD-X and LCD-3.
