i like the tall enveloping soundstage of the LCD2, and the suction feel of the pads...a vacuum of sorts..

literally suckssss me in...to the music.

Agreed. They are pretty similar though not identical, and I'd also consider the LCD-2 a good upgrade for HD 650 users. Just a little more treble and I think it'd be perfection!

theres the LCD-3. and i think that one would be an even better upgrade to HD 650 since its better with soundstage and is smoother sounding, two traits that HD 650 fans love!

From my own experience, the LCD2's and 3's are an incremental upgrade over the 650. It only improves in some area's where the 650 falls shy of, but none of you have ever heard a 650 on a superb amplifier so this can attribute to what people think of the 650 vs the Audeze powerhouse orthos. 650's when properly amplified sounds more neutral than any of the LCD's but the HD600's still sound more neutral than the 650. Don't forget that for a 10 year old + headphone, there is a reason why the HD580/600/650 have a bigger following than all the LCD's put together. The LCD's also don't benefit as much from amplification as compared to some of the TOTL dynamic headphones and be it that the HE-5/HE-6.

If you're anywhere close to having an ounce of basshead in you, LCD2 is more than just an incremental upgrade.

Even without a great amp the 650s are more neutral than the LCD-2. Even the R2 is noticeably darker. The magic of the LCD-2 is not it's neutrality. The 650s are amazing. If planars did not exist I would own the 650/600 and a nice tube amp like the Eddie Current Super 7. Or I guess I might be a Stax fanboy or something.

not sure if 650s are more neutral than LCD-2 or not. both are still pretty colored to me.

but i remember though the LCD-2 are better than 650s, the HD 650s do scale up pretty good, they sounded pretty amazing out of my WA6-SE and i would be happy with HD 650 as well if the audeze didn't exist. i sometimes think of getting HD 650s again for their smooth forgiving nature and their comfort.

It was the T1's that killed the 650's for me.  They just sounded so much cleaner.  The bass seamed to muddy on the 650's after spending time with the T1's.  I don't seam to have that problem with the LCD2's though.

Thanks.  I really need to sell some...but I just can't give any of them up.  Been wanting to try the HE-500 or PS1000 but already have too many as it is:)

PS1000 won't be better than T1 imo. especially with the WA2, it'd be quite tough to beat. even with LCD-3 and TH-900, T1/WA2 is still my favorite or 2nd favorite now. its just such a good combo, definitely endgame quality with the right tubes.

u could upgrade D7k to TH-900, its a pretty good upgrade wink.gif

and T1 are better than HE-500  though the HE-500 are very close to the T1 now that i upgraded my DAC.

Hey

Any LCD2 owners in bristol, UK area? Tried a pair at recent London Head fi event and would love to get the chance to audition

them in a quieter setting with more music.
