As many of you know, I am in the market for a new Home Theater receiver.
As I was searching for receivers, a feature Pioneer uses on their highest end normal and most of their Elite series receivers caught my eye...
It is called Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System - or MCACC.

Their are two levels of MCACC on Pioneer receivers.
Automatic MCACC 2
The same as MCACC 1, but also automatically equalizes your speakers for you.
Considering your room is one of your most valuable assets, I am suprised features like this do not get more attention.
What is even more exciting is cnet reviewed one of their cheaper receivers with MCACC 1, and according to them, unlike HK's EZ setup, it is the real deal.
What do you think? It is this feature that makes me want to buy a Pioneer Receiver. I am considering the Elite VSX-53TX.
EDIT: Stereophile's Guide to Home Theater reviewed a receiver with the feature. According to them, it "really, really works". They warn, however, that you should try the receiver unEQed first before doing MCACC 2.

| Automatic MCACC 1 Automatic MCACC 1 makes speaker calibration even simpler. Receivers with this feature provide a sensitive calibration microphone-which you'll place at your typical listening position in the room. Once all your speakers are connected to the receiver, simply press the calibration button and Automatic MCACC 1 begins its analysis to determine the number and type of speakers connected, their distance from the listening position, and their sound pressure levels. Once the initial set-up calibration has confirmed your specific speaker configuration, Automatic MCACC 1 automatically makes all the necessary adjustments for you. It will know how many speakers you have, whether they're large or small speakers, how much delay (if any) is required for each-so all of your sound arrives to you at precisely the same time-and sound levels, so all of the sound reaches you at the same volume. |
