Alright I got up and went over to Best Buy today in search of anything they MIGHT have, I was nicely surprised to find that they indeed had a few nice headphones.
Beats of course, Bose QC 15's, Sennhieser HD428( really liked these), Sony XB500's, and Koss UR 55's.
The beats versus the XB500's were close, the beats punched while the XB500's where clean deep sound, which is what I prefer. I listened to Devin Townsend with "Strapping Young Lad's - Love?" Which is a song famous for it's bass and I have to agree. The problem was, I couldn't hook up my own music up to he XB500's, I had to listen to their music. The Beats were fine on that song, they weren't really tested with the Highs cause that song has mediocre highs. I then switched up to Rehabs "It don't matter" which is an early nineties rap song, was a hit for a while and well worth the listen,. The Highs on that song are superior to "Love?" but the bass isn't anywhere are close and on all the headphones I used it on the Sennhieser 428's were the most balanced which is what I liked.
Punchy bass is nice on the Beats I will admit but I could get the same from some SR60i's for MUCH cheaper. So it's up to you I suggest you go take your own music to a store and check stuff out and see how you like it.
