Moth Si2A3 has been completely retubed and will ship in original Moth crate (tubes will ship separately).
I just retubed the amp to re-establish factory voicing:
- 2 Jan-Phillips 6188 tubes (Craig originally shipped with Jan-Phillips 6SL7, but I couldn't find them and Craig told me these 6188 are the exact same tube)
- Sovtek 5AR4 (Craig said he originally shipped with Sovtek or Sino 5AR4; I read about reliability problems with the Sino so I bought a Sovtek)
- pair of Sovtek 2A3
I have the original crate and owner's manual and will ship the tubes separately.
The amp does produce a low level hum (it emanates from the big silver doughnut in left back in pics below) which I can hear when I stand next to the amp, but isn't an issue from my normal listening position across room (you may be able to hear it in a very quiet room, but it should be easily drowned out when music starts to play). Hum MAY be audible in headphone output, depending upon headphones used. I don't hear it with my AKG K701 and I don't remember it being an issue with Sennheiser HD650 I used to own (I don't remember if I couldn't hear it, or if it was low in level and easily drowned out when music started to play). It is fairly obvious with Sennheiser HD-555. I do not hear any hum through the speaker outputs using my Klipsch Cornwall II speakers.
Please note the small ding in paint right below headphone output and also the rust on transformers where paint has worn off. There is also a small ding in edge of one transformer, I think from previous shipment where transformers rubbed up against bottom surface of top metal plate (I will place a couple layers of painter's tape there to prevent rubbing of transformers against bottom of top plate before shipment). The eyelet soldered onto wire underneath the amp where you adjust output impedance broke off, so I just tightened down the bare wire to screw (someone with more soldering skill than I could easily resolder it on if desired).
