Best €12 I have ever spend! (IC cables)

After enjoying my complete new speaker system for months now I though it was time to start thinking about cable upgrades.
So I read up about it and to be honest I still can't see the forrest through the trees. I'm still too new at this.

Found something interesting about electrical wire as speaker cables recommended by Ctn. I PM'd him about it and he advised me to get 20 amp solid core cable with 7 strands per run. That would be about 4mm thick.
I looked at the cable supplied by the store and found out that it was rather simular. They supplied me the Ixos 613 4mm super strand speaker cable.
Am I right to think this is simular?

Then there are the interconnects. These were stock thin ones.
So I figured upgrading the IC's would have priority.
But as said I don't know where to start. So yesterday I bought a €12 IC (brand= Skytronic) just to tie me over till I've found what I need. No clue if it was any good. Just thought I get something to see if I could hear the difference.

And man am I happy now!!!
These things make my speakers sound so much better you wouldn't believe it. The bass was always too weak. I need the bass to be a bit weak cause it's a very small room and the walls boost it a alot. But all that did get boosted was the midbass and I got a boomy midbass at times. Now the boomyness is gone and the bass is deeper instead.
The mids were too upfront and have settled down a lot.
The highs are better too.
I hear lots of things I didn't hear before. So much better detail. And the room is better filled music. Everything sounds just so much better. The difference is amazing!

So my question is, have I just started to hear the potential of my source with better IC's or have I made the big leap between crap and half decent? And will the rest be fine tuning? (10% stuff)

What about upgrades from here?
Are my speakercables decent or will an upgrade make a lot of difference too.
Are there better interconnects out there that will blow these €12 ones away like they did the stock ones?

Any suggestions?
Please take in account that I live in the Netherlands. So not everything that's available in the US is available here.

(Budget, IC's up to ~$100. Speakers cables...ehm.. let's say not too extravagant)

Almost forgot:
CDP -> NAD C 541i
Amp -> NAD C 350
Speakers -> KEF Q1

I would suggest the product from TMC.

I am using their speaker cable and very happy with it. I have tried white and yellow ICs, I prefer the yellow one. I like their idea about making an audio cable. Although it's a bit hard to use, but I think it's worth it.
By the way, their retail price is not that firm. You can get a pretty good deal like 1m pair yellow label IC and 2m pair speaker cable for around $250.

Personally I think your recent upgrade to the Ixos and a better grade IC is sufficient at this point. Saving the $200 on IC and speaker wires for future speaker, headphone upgrades or even music CDs might be a better way to get the best bang for your buck.

While some people might hear a lot of difference between cables and wires, to my ears, the differences have always been subtle unless you've got really hi-end speakers.

I'm not saying that the KEF Q-1 isn't good. I've heard them and admired their warmth and smoothness. Definitely a top contender in their price category (along with the Engery C1 and B&W 301). But, my point is that spending around $100 on speaker wires on a pair of speakers costing around $300 wouldn't give the best value for your money.

Cheers!

Congratulations!. It's especially gratifying (with all the snake oil and juju out there) to immediately find cable and interconnects that work. I would suggest listening to them for awhile, since speaker cables and IC "break in" and stabilize in a system, too. This is usually all for the good and you'll be liking your changes even more.

Another excellent cheap tweak is to clean and condition all your cable and IC mechanical connections with the appropriate CAIG products (search this forum under CAIG). Play with your speaker placements, moving them off the wall and angling them towards your listening position. Putting your electronic components on solid, isolating surfaces helps, too.

Decide what you want to change in your improved sound and put it down in words; then come back here for specific suggestions. Many of the best improvements in audio are either free or real cheap. The bad news is that once you become a tweaker/adjuster, there's no going back.
