6dB and 12 dB attenuators: $17 each shipped
Sometimes there is a need to attenuate the signal into a headphone
amp. (1) It could be clipping internally if driven from a large
signal source. (2) You could have very little precise control over
the volume because the gain is too high, meaning that the amp is
way too loud unless you have it turned most of the way down, where
many volume controls have problems with linearity and channel
balance. The solution is to use these in-line attenuators from
Harrison Labs. They are in-line RCA devices: you plug this device
into your amp, then plug your interconnect into this device. I have
one pair that provides 6 dB attenuation (a moderate amount) and one
pair that provides 12 dB attenuation (a lot). These sell for $35 +
shipping at Headroom. I will sell these for $17 each, shipping
included to US.
