Need an amp for new Shure SRH840

I just bought the Shure SRH840, and even though they don't have a lot of burn in time, I love them. They sound pretty great without an amp, but I'd like to buy an amp, to make them reach their full potential. I want something thats boosts the low end a little bit (not overwhelming though) and that is overall balanced. My budget runs around <$300. What would you recommend? I wouldn't necessarily aim for audiophile gear, I just want to enjoy music to the fullest. Thanks!

Hi,

What source are you using? Something like the iBasso D2+ Boa is a nice DAC/amp. It's small and works well with both a DAP and computer.

a Samsung R780 laptop and a 5G iPod Nano. Pretty new to the audiophile world so I really don't know if that would be good enough :S

Thanks

Actually the iBasso D2+ Boa will work nicely with your setup and the DAC portion will bypass the soundcard and give you improved sound quality from your laptop and it all comes in well under budget. Oh yeah, it'll connect to your iPod and it's portable with long battery life. Longet than your iPod's. Make sure you use lossless music files for best results. :)

If you don't require your setup to be portable, maybe you could look into getting a uDAC2 and the Schiit Asgard. They should run around $350 together.

I don't think portability would be an issue as I'd stick with the SRH840s for home use and maybe, only maybe take them with me when I use my laptop out of home. I checked out both suggested setups, but can't really make a choice because I'm new to all the technicalities. But the iBasso D2+ Boa looks great, even for iPod use.

Would there be a huge difference between baka1929's setup and yours (Soundwise)?

I'm concerned about the budget too, I'm still a student and next year I'll have to move away to a university in a different town, so I would like to save some money, and still get the best possible setup.

Anyways, thanks a lot guys, Love the forum :)
