how much does the firmware/app actually affects the sound? as in compared to the hardware itself how important is the app/firmware? cos there are so many phones with android but none seem to be the least bit good as far as i can see :(

I bet it won't be a phone though! I hate to say it but I've gotten so used to the idea of carrying around one thing I don't think I'll be able to go back :(

Barely at all I think. The main attraction for me at least is the super awesome equalizer!

I just bought an Archos 32, and compiled Rockbox for its 240x400 resolution.   As you might expect, once tweaked it takes a mediocre sounding player and makes it sound a hell of a lot better.

I've been testing mainly with my Yuin PK1's and FiiO E5, since those would the ones that would be traveling with me.   I tweaked RB with the EQ settings I would normally use on my Sansa Clip or Gigabeat F, and it transforms the SQ on the Archos as well.    This might be an early development port, but it's the only music player I plan on using with this device.

The bad is that the touchscreen takes some getting used to, and the RB support on this is minimal.   It took me at least 10 minutes to figure out how to get around the RB UI.

Here's my compiled apk, for the Archos 32:  http://www.mediafire.com/?vh04vf0omkqw7kw

My dilemma is that I like to run home from work 3-4 days a week. In warmer weather I'm lacking in pockets, so I carry my cell phone in my hand. My old Samsung fits perfectly for that purpose. I don't listen to music while I run for safety reasons, but it would be nice to have a phone that plays music on my morning commute without worrying about bringing another gadget. I'm having a heck of a time finding a provider that carries a smallish phone that plays music. It's nice to get phones at a discount when buying a plan. Nokia X3 is promising, but I'd have to pay full price. Currently I'm with T-Mobile, which used to have Google Nexus One, but no longer. Argh. Anyone know of droid phones that aren't super wide that I could use with Rockbox?

Hey all, just thinking of downloading this for my t-mobile g2 touch, (HTC Hero)

How has the software developed, any good updates on the UI? And will it work well with the E7, phone only has a headphone out!

Lastly anyone knows how Rockbox stacks up against PowerAmp, which is prettly good and in the market!

Cheers

RB for Android is working great on my HTC Incredible (Froyo 2.2, 8+16GB).

If you have any questions, go ahead...

question: Does rockbox chance the quality of the sound?

Not from what I can tell with flat EQ.  However, the world renown Rockbox EQ works great and allows you to shape the sound to your desired taste.

would this work with the Evo?

Dunno.  Give it a try.
