Well, I've been wanting to upgrade my speakers, so one of my pairs of closed headphones has to go.
That's the only reason I'm selling my AKG K340s, which I wrote a full review about here.
This pair is unquestionably the bass-heavy version, and it sounds quite good. I've had it for a couple months, and I bought them from another Head-fier. I don't know much about the history of this pair, but they have seen a few changes that may be either appealing or discouraging:
- They have been fully recabled, and reterminated with a gold-plated Neutrik plug. Give the age of these cans, this is probably a good thing overall.
- The plastic mesh has been removed from behind the earpads, though there is still a solid layer protecting the drivers.
- The earpads have been replaced with velour pads, which are quite sturdy and in excellent condition.
- I've just replaced the elastics with some hair elastics. These may need to be swapped with longer or shorter ones depending on head size. This is an easy change that takes about five minutes.
I'll be sad to see these go, because they truly are great-sounding headphones. As fair warning, though, everything you've heard about the AKG K340 needing a strong amp is true. It's not a joke, and it's not snobbery. They love tubes, but they also sound great from a meaty SS amp. Still, fans of the AKG sound who haven't yet tried the K340 owe it to themselves to track down a pair.
I'm asking for about the same as I paid for them, which amounts to $TRADED US plus shipping. I'd prefer a Canadian sale, as usual, but I'd be willing to send them to the US as well. I'd just as soon keep this within North America, though.
At this point, I'm not really looking for much in the way of trades, but I would consider trades for other interesting full-size headphones of similar value. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions and I'll try to answer them as best I can.
