Tell me your fave Female Jazz Vocalist(s) and Song(s):

Thread Starter

I have another thread going on Etta James; this is a bit more focused:

Id like to put a list together of 20 great songs from the great, classic, female jazz singers (ie Sara Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Etta Jones, etc.).

I know very little about this genre; this will be a great way for me to get into the originals and then later get into some more modern names.

Pls list your fave singer(s) and song(s) (doesnt have to be the most popular song, just your favorite).

I don't listen to much jazz or jazz singers, but my favorite is "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free" by Nina Simone.

Betty Carter doing "Just the Way You Look Tonight" is amazing, though I'm not sure where to find it.

I don't really know if these are technically jazz but they ARE female vocalists:

Diana Krall, there are others I like but Krall IMHO puts the most feeling in a song. She's not just singing a tune, she's involved with it.

Tierney Sutton hasn't been mentioned yet. I was just listening to "What'll I Do" from the "Dancing In The Dark" release.

Or how about the young Renee Olstead... ...&
