May Stereophile, Tellig on Little Dot and Music hall

I can't get the may issue of Stereophile but believe Sam Tellig's column was on the Little Dot (not sure which one) and Music Hall headphone preamps. If anyone who has this issue can just post the basics of his thoughts on these two I'd be most grateful. Being in Australia Stereophile isn't readily available, particularly as this is now a back issue.

Also, I've seen some Youtube videos of a little Dot being partnered with a McIntosh and Maggies as preamp - is it really that good as a normal pre???

Sam bought the amp with his money. One thing I know about John Atkinson is there are no freebies over at Stereophile ask the reviewers who were fired for doing unethical stuff including one who was escorted from the premises. Say what you will and I have subscribed from the early days to the magazine and it is still IMO the best resource  for 2 channel audio and Sam has spent his money because of the hype with the budget Little Dots and provided a fair evaluation of the amp. The review was not solicited.

I had the amp and it's a nice piece. Especially for street prices. I sadly sold it due to non use.

Thank you indeed for posting the link, my original choice of the Shanling PH300 is seriously being reconsidered. Can see another query being posted soon though, Little Dot Mk3 VS 4SE.

Thanks again,

For the price you cant go wrong however there is the 349.00 Vahalla on the horizon may be worth the wait for the reviews.

I love that this article confirms what I believe my experience has been - if you want a *taste* of hi fi, it really is available for only a few hundred bucks.

But here's another undervalued part of the value proposition:

While I spent $275 shipped directly from dark voice for the 336se, $250 for dt 880 600 from B&H and then got used beresford dac for $100.   All of my collegues are spending that same $600 on ipads that are going to be worth very little in a few years.  Hifi equipment has a much longer lifespan.

Great post, and very true. Add a flourishing second-hand market to that equation, and you really come out ahead. The prices for most Grado, Beyer, Senn, etc are generally pretty steady on the used market. As long as you keep your pair in good shape, you can basically sell it for about what you purchased it for, even several years down the line. Try that with ANY Apple gear.

To be fair, sources of any type rarely hold their value.
