That would be amazing!  Any link you can share that talks about the rumors?

Definitely one, and possibly a front facing camera for video chatting via Facetime.

I think the 3G capability is a much more useful feature than a camera. Hope it's true though.

What they need to do to the Classic is put a big screen on it.  All that space is perfect for videos.  With the emphasis on touch UIs I can see them reviving the demand for a hard drive based player if they put iOS on it.  The added thickness shouldn't be a problem for those who need the extra storage space. Call it the iPod Modern.  JMHO

Would be too close to iPad, IMO, or at least the 7" version everyone is expecting soon.

Anyone here realize that a "3G-enabled iPod touch" is a less expensive contract-less iPhone with a data plan?

Come on you guys, if they made an iPod with 3G it would cannibalize sales of the iPhone.

I doubt the new iPod Touch will convince me to replace my 2G, but I guess you never know. 3G would be awesome if the plan was reasonable. Now that I think about it, that's probably really the only thing that could push me into getting a new Touch.

I'd like to hope that those of us that just want a music player combined with the advantages of a PDA will benefit greatly when the older--or current==generation goes on sale at drastic reductions.

Not all of us want or even need a camera, internet capabilities, or any of that other stuff.  Just gimme a decent player with all those thousands of apps to stick in it and I'm happy

Yes, I realize that exactly. I'd much rather pay for a $15-25 data plan instead of a $100 iPhone contract. My current cell phone gets about 30 minutes use a month so my plan (part of a family plan) is $10 a month. So I'll save $65-75 a month by carrying my phone and an iPod Touch and have the same features, more or less.

Not really. Many people already had expensive contracts, like my co-worker who already had a $90 a month plan cause he uses so many minutes and texts. He got an iPhone and the plan only went up a few dollars. No biggie for him or the many people who are in his situation.

On the flip side Apple would make many people who are in my position happy. I don't use my phone hardly ever, but I would use 3G wireless data all the time. The 3G wireless is also great for iTunes, which is a good thing for Apple, too. It helps them make money while it costs them very little to include in an iPod. Apple gives the carriers another source of revenue and who knows, perhaps some people with 3G iPods will next time opt for the iPhone and the big contract.

If they can find a way to make a new Classic hold 500GB of music I'd buy one. I'm almost out of room on my 160GB iPod. I have about 60 CDs I'd like to add to it. So now I have to jockey albums in and out. I'd take 320GB though. Not sure 250GB would be worth it to me. I have no interest in the iTouch as it doesn't hold anywhere near what I want.

It is likely that toshiba will introduce thick 500GB HDDs this september (probably only with Micro-SATA interface), but i doubt that Apple will use these in a classic. They've decided to get rid of thick classic two generations ago, why would they revive it now?
